Sweet Arabella brought her new baby brother to the studio to play recently. It was beautiful weather, so we had to take advantage of it and do some shots outside. I loved how angelic she looked with her hair blowing in the breeze! That little brother of hers is sure a sweetie too! He really looks like his sisters and I can't wait to watch him grow!

The Right Moment

We always entertain beautiful children here at Lacy Bean; but sometimes the moment is so exactly captured that it makes you catch your breath.

The lighting is just right, her hands in just the right position. The smile soft, the eyes big and looking straight at the camera. The shutter clicked at the perfect moment. Taking the time, no rush, and coming up with a touch of magic.

Payton made a three hour round trip with her mom in order to visit us. And this shot is one of the best that our young studio has turned out.

Kevin, Conor and Claire came to play at the studio the other day! Their distinct personalities were very evident in each of their approaches to the session. Kevin is the age where he is 'Mr. Cool'. I think deep down he enjoyed the attention, but didn't want to show it. LOL! Conor loved every second of it and could have gone on all day I think! And Princess Claire just wanted to do her thing. As long as she was playing with all of her stuffed friends, we could do what we wanted - and she gave us some beautiful expressions!

For the second year in a row we're also going to be showing a classic monster double feature on the front of our garage with this year showcasing Bela Lugosi in the original Dracula and Lon Chaney Jr. in his most famous role, The Wolf Man.

So there will be lots of cool goings-on at our address tomorrow night . . .

Fall Family Sessions

We will be at Rentschler Forest Preserve on Saturday the 25th beginning at 4pm - and then Sharon Woods the next day starting at 10am.

These are 20 minute sessions that have a reduced session fee of only $35 (due at the time of booking). Regular print and package rates apply.

Online Proofing is Good

One of the items that we offer is online proofing; we felt it was important to offer clients who would be traveling quite a distance to visit us this option.

Although gas has been dropping of late (thankfully), this gives you the option of sitting at your computer in your pajamas and going through things at your pace at 2am if you so choose. It also gives you the chance to share images with your relatives, whether they live in Prague or Peoria.

So now grandma can pick which image she would like on her mantle.

Once your session is finished, Nicole will select a batch of images that will be uploaded to a password protected gallery that you can share with whom you choose. After a designated amount of time, you can simply place your order over the phone or through email.

It doesn't get much easier than that.

Part Two, Our Residential Studio

There are a lot of people out there who take pictures - and then have them developed at the corner drugstore in order to mark them up like crazy. I've seen it myself. But our clients can trust they won't have that happen.

We have an account with one of the largest color labs in the country. That assures that you will receive the best possible print for your money. In addition, if you are so inclined to have your prints framed, we have an account with one of the biggest frame distributors in the US - and if you want top of the line, you have to see canvas prints. They are all the rage, and for good reason.

Coming back inside the Studio, we have had a top-of-the-line canvas manufacturer produce two custom drops for Lacy Bean. They liked one of them so much, they mentioned that they may turn it into one of their regular catalog items.

And we go beyond the picture taking as well; Nicole has many years experience in post production too and we have upgraded that with a new computer and the latest software. No one retouches her images but Nicole herself. That's something else you won't find everywhere.

But you will find it at Lacy Bean.

Our Residential Studio, Part One

I'm sure there is more than one person who may have misconceptions about the term 'residential studio'. So over the next few days, I thought I would talk about what you can expect of Lacy Bean Photography.

When we decided to do this and did our research, we found that nearly every major photographer in the country started out of their home. Don Schenk did so himself many years ago. It's a relatively common origin in the industry.

Rest assured we have gone to great lengths to give you the best possible experience. To start, Nicole and I installed new hardwood flooring in both the studio room and the camera room. She has always loved the look of wood flooring in photography and would settle for nothing less. It greets you the moment you come in the door and now takes up most of the first floor of our home.

There is of course new paint, new doors that have been installed and new fixtures. New furniture was purchased and a small area has been set aside to entertain kids; complete with activity books, a dvd player and kid-friendly video games. There are two comfortable chairs in the studio room to relax in while nursing a baby or to look at the walls.

- Tomorrow, I'll talk a bit about the vendors that we work with. I promise that your images will not be produced by the 'photo department' at WalMart . . .

Not a trick, but a treat as little Madison graced us with her presence for the second session of her newborn panel. Of course, we told mom to pack her Halloween costume! She has grown so much in just four months and is truly a little doll. We can't wait to see her again in January!

I recently had the privilege of photographing the Grajek family. We really wanted to do a portrait outside, but Mother Nature didn't really want to cooperate! We found a shelter at a local park and made the most of it - I think they turned out great despite the hurdle we had.
